In January 2017, one month after his fourth birthday, Danny Sheehan was diagnosed with pineoblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer which spreads through the brain and spine, as well as leptomeningeal disease(cancer in the cerebral spinal fluid). This diagnosis was devastating to his parents who experienced the loss of Danny’s identical twin brother at 37 weeks in utero. Since this diagnosis, Danny has been treated at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber. He has bravely endured numerous surgeries, a grueling regimen of multiple rounds of high dose chemotherapy treatments, stem cell transplant followed by quarantine, 6 rounds of cranial-spinal radiation, and most recently, Danny has been following a clinical trial protocol out of Austria. Unfortunately, the cancer has continued to spread.
In July 2019, the local police department ceremoniously swore Danny in as a Police Officer. Danny remains ready to put on his uniform and help out, whenever duty calls. The community has been extremely supportive of Danny and his family.
His medical team and parents are working to determine next steps.
And yet, nothing can suppress Danny’s infectious smile and positive attitude. He is the shining light of his mother and father’s lives. Please follow his story @4theloveofdanny.
